JUst Ganguly
Hi everyone,
I just could not stop myself writing about Indian cricket. I mean, look at the way our boys are playing in the last couple of years. They are winning almost everything that is coming through their way. But did it happen overnight? Or is it only because of MS Dhoni's captaincy?. I would certainly be not agreeing to this fact. In fact it all started under the captaincy of India's greatest ever captain, Saurav Ganguly. I am sure we have not forgotten India's win over England when we were chasing down a huge total of 326 runs or our win over the Australian cricket team in the test series when they toured India in 2000-2001. These are just a few memorable moments during his tenure as Indian captain. Ganguly became the captain in tough times. Indian team was struggling because of the match fixing scandals, and Ganguly had a huge task before him to unite the complete team and get things back on track. He did that in a fantastic way. He was the man who introduced the term aggression in "Team India" which was not very much liked by the Australians who were actually ruling the cricket world in those days. It was under his captaincy, that Indiastarted to give a tough competition to the Australian cricket team. Just to let you know, Ganguly is by far the most successful test captain of India with a record 21 test wins out of 49 that Indiaplayed under his captaincy. It was Ganguly who showed faith in young talents like Yuvraj, Sehwag and Harbhajan and supported them throughout to give them the confidence. He was always ready to take challenges and would fear to no one. MS Dhoni and his team is now doing very well in International cricket but one would have to say that the platform was laid out in the early years of this decade when Saurav captained India. In my personal view, he should not have retired from International cricket (At least from test cricket) so early as he had the capability to play for a few more years but I guess he had to do that because of the ignorance by the Indian selectors.
Anyways, my best wishes are with Dhoni and I hope Indian cricket will reach new heights of success under his captaincy. Best of luck..!!
